Mr McCartney Retweeted content related to the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The Tweet also alleged that “postal voting fraud is endemic in some parts of the UK”.

The claim is patently false – and sharing such misinformation is dangerous.

Annual reports from the Electoral Commission show low levels of all voter fraud in U.K. elections (for example, the 2019 report). Data is not provided on postal voting specifically, but the commission’s 2017 report details that, of 104 alleged voting offences, 22 were related to postal votes.

In 74 of those 104 cases, “police forces took no further action following the conclusion of their investigations”.

There are more than 66 million people in the U.K.

It is inaccurate to assert that electoral fraud of any kind is “endemic” in some areas of the U.K.
